While cacao and chocolate items are some of our top selling products on our website, some of us have a difficult time consuming them. Many people enjoy that euphoric edge chocolate gives them, while for others the stimulation could feel too intense on our systems. It can even impact our sleep.
Today we’ve got our Carob Powder ‘At-Cost’ along with our Lucuma and Mesquite Powders.
In the Raw Foods movement, carob powder has always been the closest cacao replacement there has ever been. Not only is it the same color, but it actually has a similar taste to cacao. When people want to make their raw food items taste like chocolate, but don’t want the stimulating effects of cacao, carob powder is generally the go to source for it.
All three powders, Carob, Lucuma, and Mesquite, work really well together when you mix them. They are all very similar in that they are low glycemic, but give a special sweetness to our raw dishes and baked goods. The main differences is that Carob Powder has a chocolate taste edge to it, Lucuma Powder has like a shortbread or butterscotch flavor, and my favorite Mesquite Powder just seems to be the overall sweetest.
I know that people don’t look at these three superfoods as sweeteners like I do. I eat so basic, so these taste like sugar to my unobstructed palate. However, if you use things like Coconut sugar or other sugars, don’t expect it to to give you the same satisfaction.
I would personally never use sugar in a recipe in any form due to this sensitivity of mine. Also there are a lot of sensitive people on this email list who have been with me since the beginning, and are also ridiculously sensitive.
So Carob, Mesquite and Lucuma powder are actual healthy superfoods, and they are way more nutritious than most other sweeteners. They are more of a whole food versus a sweetener, but work as a sweetener for people like me. They are actually Superfoods, and even benefit the body in many ways, as you will see in the clinical studies below.
So, these three Superfood Powders have been my low glycemic sweetener of choice over the years. You may remember me putting these superfoods into my pili nut chocolate creations.
Now let’s go over a few clinical studies in regards to these three Superfoods.
Carob powder is a superfood powder that comes from a pod on a tree, and is loaded with antioxidants. Unlike chocolate, It contains no oxalates, and at the clinical study here, they found that the antioxidant polyphenols in carob’s insoluble fiber lowered total cholesterol and LDL (bad) cholesterol in people with high cholesterol.
Lucuma is a low glycemic Peruvian fruit, and as seen in the clinical studies here, and here, it may help lower your blood pressure. These studies even show that the blood-sugar-lowering mechanisms of lucuma may be comparable to those of certain antidiabetic drugs.
Mesquite Powder is also a pod like carob. At the clinical study here, it gives some hints on how to use it for baking. The study also shares how Mesquite Powder is loaded with antioxidants and has an antimicrobial effect. At the study here, it shares that Mesquite Powder is loaded with antioxidants and that it has powerful anti-inflammatory properties, and could perhaps be used as a preventative treatment against inflammatory conditions.
I used to sometimes make homemade apple sauce by blending apples in the blender, and mix Mesquite Powder right into it. These powders can all be added to smoothies, blended apple sauce, and homemade nut milks to provide a hint of natural sweetness sure to please adults and children alike. They are all also perfect for deserts.
So whether you want to sweeten your desert to taste like chocolate (Carob), give it that shortbread edge (Lucuma), or you want to go for over-all sweet (Mesquite), we’ve got all three of these Superfood Powders ‘At-Cost’ through the end of the month. A little bit of Maca is also always fun to add to the taste of these three sweet superfood powders to give it that malty halvah edge flavor to it.
The Carob and Mesquite Powder are only $9.95 each, and the Lucuma Powder is only $14.89 each.
