I had a customer recently request this one due to all of its benefits. I then researched it, and had to get it.

Turkey Tail Mushroom (Trametes versicolor) stands out, because it has two bioactive protein-bound polysaccharides compounds, called PSK and PSP. Neither PSK or PSP are in any other mushroom, and their benefits are off the hook.

In fact protein-bound polysaccharides, also known as polysaccharopeptides, are very rare to find in other mushrooms, especially in these quantities.

All polysaccharides are incredible, but PSK and PSP are just unique in what they accomplish in the human body.

For example, Turkey Tail is one of the most researched medicinal mushrooms due to PSK and PSP, with decades of clinical studies, supporting its use in cancer care and immune health. As you will see further below, studies show that even cancer survival rates are higher due to these Protein-Bound Polysaccharides.

On top of that, Turkey Tail’s benefits also come from a broader ensemble of compounds that enhance Turkey Tail’s overall potency.

Turkey Tail's got Beta-Glucans, Phenolic Compounds, such as Quercetin and Baicalein, Terpenoids, Sterols, and other proteins and peptides. All of these compounds work together to produce a broad-spectrum effect, which includes enhanced immunity, cancer support, gut health, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties.

Now the key here is that it is Dual-Extracted. Both PSK and PSP are water-soluble, extracted from the mushroom via hot water processing. Normally when people make mushroom extracts, they either use alcohol as their extraction method, or they use hot water as their extraction method.

Before we get into the profound benefits of the hot water extracted PSK and PSP Superstars within Turkey Tail, let me share why all of its other compounds are so important too.

At the clinical study here, they identified over 35 phenolic compounds, which are alcohol extracted from Turkey Tail, noting their role in reducing inflammation by inhibiting pro-inflammatory enzymes like COX and LOX.

The Beta-Glucans in Turkey Tail stimulate the immune system by binding to receptors on immune cells (like macrophages and dendritic cells), enhancing pathogen defense, inflammation regulation, and reducing tumor growth. Also known as Krestin, PSK has decades of clinical trials including the ones here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, all showing improved survival rates in cancer patients (Colorectal, Gastric, and Lung Cancers). In Japan, it’s an approved adjuvant (supportive) treatment for cancer since 1977. As seen in these studies, the way PSK works is that it stimulates the immune system by activating immune cells like macrophages, T-cells, and natural killer (NK) cells.

These studies also reveal that PSK inhibits tumor growth and reduces metastasis, which prevents cancer spread by blocking adhesion, invasion, and metastatic growth in models like sarcomas and prostate cancer. PSK also mimics SOD activity, reducing oxidative stress in cancer patients. These studies above also share that PSK increases production of IL-2, IL-8, IFN-γ, and TNF-α, aiding immune response, and Promotes programmed cell death in tumor cells (e.g., pancreatic cancer) via pathways like p21WAF/Cip1.

Now, PSP works right alongside PSK helping to fight cancer due to its immune boosting and anti-tumor effects. Here is one of five studies showing PSP's immune boosting properties enhancing macrophage and T-cell activity, this one particularly on lung cancer patients. At the clinical study here, PSP inhibits tumor cell proliferation (e.g., leukemia, colorectal) and enhances chemotherapy effects, improving survival in some cases. At the study here, PSP triggers cell death in cancer cells. At the study here, PSP targeted cancer stem cell-like populations in prostate cancer models. Other studies show that PSP also has tremendous antioxidant effects, anti-Infammatory effects, and gut health benefits like PSK.

In all of these studies above, they used the isolated compounds PSK and PSP from Turkey Tail. Here are a few studies where they just used a Turkey Tail Mushroom extract.

At the clinical study here, breast cancer patients taking 6-9g of Turkey Tail powder daily after radiation showed faster immune recovery, with boosted NK cell activity and lymphocyte counts. At the study here, a review of 13 clinical trials with cancer patients (breast, gastric, colorectal) showed that Turkey Tail, combined with standard treatments, prolonged survival and reduced side effects compared to chemotherapy alone. At the study here, a 2023 scoping review of 9 studies confirmed benefits like reduced chemotherapy toxicity, improved appetite, and maintained quality of life in gastric, breast, and colorectal cancer patients.

Now imagine what Turkey Tail can do for a healthy persons without cancer.

Turkey Tail will dial down chronic low-grade inflammation for a person without cancer, which is linked to fatigue, joint aches, or just feeling off, because the T-cells and macrophages release Cytokines that regulate inflammation.

PSK in Turkey Tail mimics superoxide dismutase (SOD), mopping up free radicals. This could slow aging effects, less oxidative stress means healthier cells, skin, and organs over time. It can also protect cells from environmental wear-and-tear from pollution or poor diet.

PSK and PSP also revs up immune cells keeping your immunity sharp, which means a stronger defense against everyday infections; think fewer colds or faster recovery. For example, it will boost your Natural Killer Cells (NK) a type of white blood cell in the immune system that attack viruses, bacteria, and abnormal cells (like cancer) without needing prior activation.
