Hey Everyone!
You are not
going to believe this.
Did you know that our Goji Berry Powder has more Zeaxanthin than any other food in existence? It’s not just by a little either.
The second top food in Zeaxanthin is Orange Bell Peppers. Our Goji Berry Powder has 50 times more zeaxanthin than Orange Bell Peppers. The next top food in Zeaxanthin is corn, which our Goji Berry Powder has over 250
times more Zeaxanthin!
Why is Zeaxanthin so important?
Zeaxanthin, along with lutein, is a carotenoid that accumulates in high concentrations in the macula, forming a yellow macular pigment filter. This macular pigment filter is densest in the fovea, the region of the retina responsible for our sharpest central vision and home to the highest concentration of cone
photoreceptors.
These cones are essential for detecting fine detail, color, and clarity in daylight. This pigment, densest in the fovea, is composed mainly of ~70–80% zeaxanthin and ~20–30% lutein, and has a yellow color that selectively absorbs high-energy blue light. This acts like a natural pair of sunglasses inside the eye, reducing light scatter and glare while preventing overstimulation of the sensitive foveal
cones. By doing so, it helps maintain visual clarity and contrast.
Most importantly, it also protects these delicate cones from photo-toxic damage, which can occur when excessive blue light and oxidative stress overwhelm the retina. Damage to foveal cones can lead to blurring, distortion, or permanent loss of central vision, as seen in conditions like age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
If we don't get enough zeaxanthin,
then the macular pigment becomes thinner, especially in the fovea, reducing its ability to filter blue light and protect cone cells. Over time, this increases the risk of glare, visual fatigue, and long-term damage to central vision, including a higher risk of age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
What’s crazy, is that 1 teaspoon of our Goji Berry Powder will give you all of the Zeaxanthin that you need in a day. It
tastes so good that I would do at least a heaping 1 teaspoon to cover your grounds completely. If you already have AMD, then you may even want to load up on many teaspoons per day.
Our Goji Berry Powder is over 2x's more concentrated than dried goji berries. Therefore, to get a teaspoon of goji berry powder, you would need to eat about 34 goji berries. It’s just so much easier and less
invasive to take the powder in my opinion, and it just tastes so good.
As you will shortly see, there are a grip load of studies that show Goji Berries boost zeaxanthin levels up to 3-fold in 90 days, protecting against age-related macular degeneration by enhancing retinal health and improving visual acuity in early AMD patients.
However, first lets start with the study here, where they demonstrated that goji berries are more effective than lutein/zeaxanthin supplements in enhancing eye health, particularly for preventing age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
In this 90-day trial, healthy adults aged 45–65 who consumed 28 g of goji berries five times weekly showed significant increases in Macular Pigment
Optical Density (MPOD—a key marker of eye health that reflects the concentration of protective pigments in the retina), while those taking a supplement with 6 mg lutein and 4 mg zeaxanthin showed no improvement. Goji berries also boosted skin carotenoid levels, indicating stronger antioxidant protection. This superior bioavailability and higher zeaxanthin dose outperformed the supplement making goji berries a
powerful tool for delaying or preventing AMD compared to supplements.
As seen in the studies [1, 2, 3, 4, 5], goji
berries have been repeatedly shown to enhance macular pigment optical density (MPOD), raise plasma zeaxanthin levels by up to threefold, and improve visual acuity in early AMD patients. Their high concentration of bioavailable zeaxanthin—up to 90% in esterified form—offers superior absorption and retinal protection compared to isolated supplements. In fact, at the study here, it shows that zeaxanthin in goji berries is predominantly present as zeaxanthin dipalmitate, a highly bioavailable form.
These studies also show goji berries help maintain macular pigmentation, reduce the buildup of retinal waste deposits (known as drusen—an early sign of AMD), boost antioxidant defenses by over 50%, and filter harmful blue
light. These findings consistently support goji berries as a potent, food-based intervention for improving macular health and delaying age-related degeneration.
You know how back in the day when I first started the entire Superfoods movement, lol?
Goji Berries were known to be a major fun longevity Superfood. This was no joke.
Goji Berries contain Lycium Barbarum
Polysaccharides (LBPs), which are unique to Goji Berries and not found in any other foods.
Goji Berries LBP’s are highly branched structures containing monosaccharides. You sometimes hear about other alien-sounding Superfoods that also have crazy bioactive polysaccharides with a similar molecular structures to Goji Berries LBP's. There are only about 7 other primary members in this
‘Longevity Polysaccharide-Class Alien Clan’, including Ginseng, Echinacea, Astragalus, Reishi, Cordyceps, Aloe, and Schisandra.
Goji Berries stand out among them all due to the unique synergy between LBPs (Lycium barbarum polysaccharides) and zeaxanthin, and its impact on the retinal-brain connection.
The retina and brain, both formed from the same embryonic neural tube, stay linked through shared
nerve cells and blood vessels. As seen at the study here, retinal cells and brain neurons face similar age-related stressors, such as oxidative stress, inflammation, and amyloid-beta plaque accumulation. For example, as seen in the study here amyloid-beta plaques detected in the retina, directly correlate with amyloid plaques in the brain, signaling early Alzheimer’s pathology.
Other retinal signs, such as tau protein accumulation, thinning of the retinal nerve fiber layer, and microvascular damage, have also been linked to early neurodegenerative changes. This is where the
term, "The eyes serve as a window to the brain" comes from, because in many cases, they show us what the brain can’t yet say out loud.
What's crazy is that Zeaxanthin and LBPs in goji berries cross the blood-brain barrier and blood-retinal barrier. This is what makes them such a rare dynamic duo. They team up and clear amyloid-beta plaques in the retina and brain, while at the same
time delivering antioxidants to the brain and eyes shielding them from macular degeneration and Alzheimer’s damage.
Zeaxanthin shields your retina and brain by 1. enhancing brain cell connections for sharper memory, 2. blocking tau tangles, which are twisted protein fibers that clog neurons and retinal cells fueling Alzheimer’s, 3. neutralizing harmful free radicals, and 4. reducing inflammation
by calming overactive immune cells. But zeaxanthin doesn’t work alone.
LBPs (Lycium barbarum polysaccharides) go even deeper. These rare, alien-like compounds protect your memory and eyesight by 1. preventing neuron death under amyloid stress, 2. encouraging the growth of new brain connections (synaptic plasticity-key for memory and learning), 3. activating a powerful defense system
called the Nrf2 pathway, which unleashes a wave of antioxidant enzymes-SOD, CAT, and GPx-that neutralize free radicals before they can damage brain and retinal cells, 4. calming chronic inflammation by blocking overactive immune pathways stuck in overdrive in Alzheimer’s, 5. enhancing clearance of toxic amyloid-beta plaques, as shown in studies like this one here, and 6. even boosting the birth of new brain cells—what scientists call neurogenesis.
Even more jaw-dropping is that both Goji berries’ zeaxanthin and LBPs slows an enzyme called beta-secretase, which creates toxic amyloid-beta plaques. At the
same time they both activate natural cleanup proteins in your brain and retina, which boost clearance of the amyloid plaque by breaking down and flushing out these harmful clumps. This keeps both the retina and brain clear and healthy.
Goji Berries' Zeaxanthin and LBPs are like your brain’s elite strike force crossing the blood-brain and retinal barriers, repairing broken circuits, crushing inflammation, and clearing
toxic junk before it turns deadly, rebuilding your memory from the ground up.
Have you ever heard of lipofuscin?
It’s known as the “age pigment”, a toxic, brownish gunk that builds up in your brain, eyes, heart, and liver as you age. It's basically the garbage your cells can’t get rid of: a mix of damaged fats, proteins, and metals that piles up when your cells are under oxidative stress or your natural cleanup systems slow down. This
oxidized gunk clogs your retina, brain, and liver cells, driving blindness (AMD), Alzheimer’s, and organ decline as you age.
Goji berries are your secret weapon, with LBPs, zeaxanthin, and flavonoids that help flush this age junk out, especially in your eyes and brain. In a fascinating study on aged mice here, scientists found that LBPs, the unique longevity compound in goji berries, significantly reduced lipofuscin buildup in multiple organs. Another study here, found that goji extract protected eye cells from oxidative stress and reduced
lipofuscin in the retina by boosting antioxidant defenses and calming cell damage. That means goji berries aren’t just protecting your eyes and brain from future damage, they’re helping clean up the mess that’s already there.
Beyond protecting your brain and eyes, goji berries unleash a flood of longevity benefits through their potent mix of LBPs, zeaxanthin, flavonoids, beta-carotene, betaine,
vitamin C, amino acids, and sterols, shielding mitochondria to keep cells energized, balancing blood sugar, cholesterol, and blood pressure for heart health, fortifying immunity to fight infections, protecting your liver against fatty liver, injury, and scarring, building proteins for tissue repair, killing cancer cells, and extending lifespan in animal studies.
As I said, goji berries are a true longevity superfood that ignite every
system, keeping your body youthful, resilient, and thriving for decades!
I'm bringing back Goji Berries as one of the top longevity superfoods on earth.
Goji berries are so much fun! They are like red raisins with such a unique flavor.
We've got both goji powder and goji berries on special this month.
If you are looking to boost your vision and brain health, I would go with the Goji
Powder.
It's so much easier to take 1 teaspoon of powder than to eat 34 berries. It's ideal for those seeking maximum anti-aging benefits in smaller servings. The powder will enable you to get a high dose with a much lower digestive impact. Furthermore, the powder’s versatility makes it a breeze to blend into smoothies, sprinkle over yogurt, take directly into
your mouth, or mix into recipes, supercharging your daily nutrition with a delicious, nutrient-packed punch!
Don't get me wrong, the whole goji berries are also super fun to incorporate into your meals, trail mix snacks, and smoothies. You just need a lot more bulk to get the same amount of nutrition. I actually used to just throw a bag of Goji Berries in water to soak over night. I would then strain out the water
and drink it. That was so good.
On special, we've got our Goji Berry Powder at only $6.49 each when you get a 3-pack, and we've got our dried Goji Berries at $14.95 each through the end of the month.
